Georg Friedrich Händel has gone down in music history as one of the truly great, mainly for his oratorios. He began composing oratorios relatively late in his life after abandoning operatic setting.

The oratorio Messiah composed Handel in 1741 after a libretto by Charles Jennens. The work was premiered in Dublin on 13 April 1742 and had its London premiere almost a year later. After first receiving a fairly cool public reception, the oratorio increased in popularity, and as early as the end of the 18th century, it became one of the most popular sacred works. A position it has certainly maintained, as today it is one of the western world’s most performed classical works.

In this version, the oratorio is performed by more than 60 students from the Ingesund Academy of Music in Arvika. Instrumentalists, singers and also a dozen young soloists. A wonderfully vital and varied Messiah with youth and Handel’s joy of life.
